A charming cafe only slightly off the north side of the moat, Akha Ama is named after the "one mother" from the Ahka village of Maejantai, who encouraged the people or her village to produce, process and market their own coffee. In fact, it is her portrait you'll find on the Akha Ama logo. Serving delicious coffee in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, Akha Ama is a must-visit for coffee lovers.
It's also a great place to relax and stay awhile, and you'll often find the city's many freelancers working from the cafe. Also to note, Akha Ama offers a "Coffee Journey" to small groups for those who are interested in learning first-hand about sustainable agriculture and organic coffee. The trip is meant to give you a first-hand look into both the village and coffee growth, so don't expect too many touristy perks -- which is a huge part of the draw.
